people on this site are so fucking ridiculous jfc.
kyary pamyu pamyu wore an egyptian costume and an indian costume for a photo shoot and everyone is losing their shit. Like they are spinning this shit way out of context with this talk of cultural appropriation and racism.
Let me ask you this, if you are trying to portray a certain culture in media how else are you supposed to show it other than a costume??? A costume is something that is easily recognized and gets the point across. Let’s put this into context though, if for example a film was being made about ancient Japan you would expect them to wear the traditional garments that were worn in that time period correct? BUT WAIT in your books this is cultural appropriation and racist! I guess we better tell the actors to wear their everyday clothes for this film. Don’t worry though, everyone will know which culture they are trying to portray if you simply believe.
I keep seeing all these articles about people using their smartphones at concerts and how “stupid” it is because they aren’t “living in the moment.”
Honestly I think that is complete bullshit. You can take videos and photos at a concert and still have a great time. I do at every concert I attend and I personally do this so that when I get home I can relive the concert over and over again as many times as I want and share the experience with friends and family. Nobody has the memory capacity to hold the amount of detail that a photo or film can. Plus it takes little to no effort to hold a phone in the air and record. I don’t even look at my phone while it’s recording because as long as it is vaguely pointed towards the stage I know it will be a fairly decent video. At least one that is good enough for me to enjoy after the show.
People need to remember that the point of photography is to capture a moment for others to experience. I’m pretty sure all these people that complain about others filming and photographing shows would be pretty damn upset if they couldn’t find any photos of the show they just enjoyed. In fact, in my own experience, I was at a show last month and I over heard a guy in the crowd talking about how “you can’t enjoy the show if you’re filming.” He rambled to his friends about how stupid it was to do so and later on said “it doesn’t even matter because someone will film it and put it on youtube anyways.” Well how would you feel if no one captured any of it for you because they had the same idea in their heads?
On the other hand I can understand why people get upset when they see others texting or snapchatting in a show because you literally are just staring at your phone. But really who am I to say that others can’t do as they please. If they want to do this it is their choice and I really couldn’t care less and neither should anyone else. Enjoy the show the way you want to and let others enjoy it how they like to. Why are people so caught up in what others choose to do?
All you hear these days is “people today and their phones.” No it’s more like “people today with their irrelevant opinions and their perpetual need to govern the way others act.”
